Once again, “El secreto del bosque”, a documentary about nature in Equatorial Guinea, has triumphed at an international level. In addition to the Grand Prize at the Scientific Cinema International organised by the Spanish Association for Scientific Cinema and Images (ASECIC) obtained last year, it is now the Shanghai International Ecological Cinema Festival which has highlighted the film as “Best documentary on the environment”.
The documentary was entered at the International Ecological Cinema Festival, which took place in Shanghai, China from 27th July to 2nd August, and obtained the award as “Best documentary on the environment”. A total of 137 documentaries were presented at the festival, from 38 different countries.
The award was presented on the morning of 24th August to the Equatorial Guinea Representation before the People’s Republic of China, led by the Ambassador, German Ekua Sima Abaga, and including the representative of the Equatorial Guinea Film Association (ACIGE), Maria Belgica Catalina Nvo Acaba. The award will be sent to the department in the near future.
The success of “El secreto del bosque” is due to a team of professional Equatoguineans, sponsored by various institutions in the country; the Ministry for the Environment, the National University of Equatorial Guinea, the Bioko Biodiversity Protection Programme (BBPP) and some Spanish agencies.
The environmental awareness-raising documentary is 45 minutes long, and was produced by the NGO EcoGuinea, in collaboration with ACIGE, and filmed entirely on Equatoguinean soil.
Among its aims are boosting ecological awareness regarding the rich nature in the country, an launching a message of conservation and protection for nature.
