The Muslim community in the capital has celebrated this festival with an important prayer meeting on the esplanade of the stadium. Islam is a religion of peace”, said the Malabo General Imam.
The hundreds of Muslims gathered in the capital from eight in the morning of 1st September focussed on prayers to God for the Festival of the Lamb, which commemorates a passage from the Koran in which Abraham offers God the sacrifice of his son, who is finally substituted by a lamb. The community thus shows its gratitude to God.
This feast is considered the greatest feast day of Islam. Currently the majority of Muslims celebrate the feast day in their places of residence, attending mosques for prayer.
