The national side lost by a goal to two against the Beninese team, in a friendly international which took place in the Malabo Stadium on 3rd September. The scorers of the goals were Pote Maikel and Jodel, from Benin, and Pedro Obama Asumu, for Nzalang.

Casto Nopo’s boys, despite playing well on the pitch, were beaten 2-1.

Despite the effort and sacrifice during 90 minutes, the Beninese side showed the boys from the national side their strength in international competitions.

The first goal of the match came in the 43rd minute of the first half, through the forward from the visiting side, Pote, wearing the number 10 shirt, when he met a cross into the box with his head, and sent it between the three sticks of the goal, which was guarded by the keeper, Oscar Eyang. With that result the two teams headed for the dressing rooms.

With the second half underway, there was a desire to even up the game and draw the match. But the defence of the visiting side became stronger and stronger. Until, in the 61st minute, the national side received a second goal through a shot from Jodel from the Nzalang penalty area.

In the 66th minute, Castro Nopo made some changes, replacing Basilio Ndong Owono with Ismael Alvarez, in order to inject more adrenalin into the national side.

Three minutes later, the national side went forward looking for a goal, which Pedro Obama Asumu managed in the 76th minute, when he took advantage of a poor clearance from one of the defenders from the visiting side.

The stands began to roar after the goal, and Nopo replaced Nicolas with Secundino Ntutumu in order to continue to pressurise the Beninese defence; which receded and sent balls away as far as possible to get out of the shadow of Nzalang, while the crowd continued to support the side as never before.

The Beninese side continued to recede, and Nzalang pressurised in order to try and draw level. Nopo changed the midfield player Pablo Ganet for Jordan Gutierez Nzang in the 87th minute, to try to even the score, but luck was not on their side.

Nzalang sweated in their shirts like true nationalists looking for the goal which would tie the game, but there was no time left and victory was for the Beninese Republic, in a close match with good football by the Nzalang boys.
