Analysis of Draft Law for Family Code

The debates concerning the Draft Law for Family Code continue to intensify in the Permanent Commission for Justice and Human Rights, due to the complexity of this legal tool, which intends to govern all the circumstances in family life and consuetudinary matrimony for each ethnic group.

During this day the debates took place with intensity regarding the conservation or removal of article 52, regarding legal effects, stating that consuetudinary matrimony has legal effects when it is formalised in accordance with the traditional rules and customs of each ethnic group.

The work of the day concluded with the adoption of article 52 and its entry in the corresponding registers, in order to harmonise the criteria regarding marriage rites and customs in the various ethnic groups in the country.
