The Speaker of the Angolan National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade, has left Wednesday for South Africa to attend the 8th Annual Conference of Speakers of African Parliaments being held on Thursday and Friday.
The main objective of the conference is to adopt and ratify the treaties of the African Union (AU), in particular the New Pan-African Parliament Protocol.
The Angolan National Assembly said in a statement issued here Wednesday that the conference would also consider a report on the 2015 annual conference of the Speakers of African Parliaments, as well as the Constitutive Act of the AU Protocol regarding the Pan-African Parliament.
The agenda includes the presentation of the Action Plan of the Legislative Assembly of East Africa (EALA) to achieve legislative powers and the presentation of a progress report on the achievements of Africa in the field of climate change.
During the conference, the Speaker of the Pan-African Parliament will hold bilateral meetings with various Speakers of national Parliaments.
