Asia and Pacific Group backs Equatorial Guinea candidacy for UN Security Council

Weeks after the African group expressed its backing for the two candidates from our continent for the posts of non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, the elections for which will take place on 2nd June, the Asia and Pacific Group, on 4th May, declared its support for the candidacy from our country.

The declaration of this support came during a meeting among diplomats from this regional UN block and from Equatorial Guinea, at the headquarters of our permanent mission in the city of New York; a meeting held within the framework of meetings the African candidates are holding during their respective campaigns.

The Equatorial Guinea Ambassador Permanent Representative before the UN, Anatolio Ndong Mba, in the presence of the Deputy Permanent Representative, Victoriana Mbasogo Mangue, thanked in the name of the Equatoguinean Government both the presence of those attending, and the support declared in favour of Equatorial Guinea, on this first occasion that it has stood to make its contribution to the Security Council.

Ndong Mba also reiterated the need for world problems to be resolved through peaceful means, in order to achieve the aims of sustainable development, according to the Government he represents before the greatest Forum for World Diplomacy.

After taking part in a video-conference reflecting the current state of Equatorial Guinea, the diplomats attended a cocktail party provided by the Equatoguinean diplomatic legation.
