To mark International Women’s Day, on 8th March, the wife of the Equatorial Guinea Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation, Maria del Pilar Nzang Mokuy de Ekua, organised a dinner in one of the restaurants in the Swiss capital, which was attended by the Ambassador, Lazaro Ekua Avomo, staff from the embassy, friends, and members of the Equatoguinean delegation on a visit to Geneva.
The United Nations slogan for this year was Now is the time: rural and urban activists are transforming the lives of women” which offers a chance to change for women and encouragement towards action; empowering women in all contexts and paying homage to the activists who work endlessly in defence of the rights of women.
The day is a good time to reflect on the progress made, demand further change, and celebrate the bravery and determination of women, who have played a key role in the history of their countries and communities.
The celebration of this day is part of an unprecedented global movement for rights, equality and justice for women. Sexual harassment, violence and discrimination against women have grabbed the headlines and public debate, with a growing determination in favour of change.
