Catholics from the Archdiocese of Malabo celebrated, on Thursday 15th August 2019, the Assumption of the Virgin of Bisila, Patron of the island of Bioko.
The solemn Eucharistic mass, attended by the First Lady of the nation, Constancia Mangue de Obiang, was said by the Bishop of Malabo, Juan Nsue Edjang Maye, who was accompanied by twenty religious ministers during the celebration.
“Bisila was an impregnated Virgin who appeared on the island of Bioko. To speak of Bisila is to speak of the very Mother of God. It is to speak of the Mystic Rose, the Immaculate Conception, it is to speak of the Virgin of Pilar and of BegoAa”,continued Juan Nsue Edjang.
As is is also the Day of our Constitution, the Monsignor made it clear that the document is a social model that favours justice, peace, equality and brotherhood.
“Our freedom is to defend what we are”, declared the Monsignor.
During the homily, 18 children received their first communion.
