CEMAC Extraordinary Summit comes to a close

The Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State from the sub-region took place on 23rd December, at the La Unite Palace in Yaunde. at the invitation of the Cameroonese President, H. E. Paul Biya, also brought together finance ministers from member States and from France, together with the Director General of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, as a special guest. We are including with this article the speech by President Biya.

The summit served to adopt measures to be implemented in the short and medium term, in order to improve the economic situation of member States in the sub-region.

The work took place after the meeting of finance ministers from the 6 member States, held on 21st and 22nd of this month of December, in Yaunde, the first to analyse between them the monetary situation, and the second, associated with the International Monetary Fund and the French administrators, to begin joint reforms in order to improve the crisis situation in the sub-region, following the economic recession which has befallen its States.

Following the speech by President Biya, the 6 leaders of the countries from the sub-region met behind closed doors, and at the end of the meeting there was a reading of the final communique.

On returning to the country, the Cameroonese Prime Minister wished a safe return journey to the Head of State and of the Government, and acting President of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC). H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, at the Nsim Alen International Airport, in Yaunde.
