On Friday 7th December, the seventh anniversary of the consecration of the Immaculate Conception Basilica Church in Mongomo was commemorated, in the presence of members of the Catholic faithful, including the presidential couple, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and Constancia Mangue de Obiang; the President of the Senate, Teresa Efua Asongono; the PDGE General Secretary, Jeronimo Osa Osa Ecoro, in addition to other national and local authorities.
The Bishop of the Diocese of Mongomo, Monsignor Juan Domingo Beka, supported by other members of the clergy, oversaw this solemn mass in the presence of the Nuncio from his Holiness Pope Francis, Julio Murat, who was visiting the diocese for the first time.
After the first and second reading, the celebrating father focussed his homily on the Gospel of Saint John, comparing the history of the basilica to the temple that King David created in Israel. Furthermore, he described this house of God, which was consecrated on 7th December 2011, as a worthy dwelling place.
The offertory, signs of peace, and the sacrament of communion with the body of Christ were the final sequences of this religious ceremony.
