Vicente Ehate Tomi, Vice-president of the Council of the Republic, has sent congratulations to H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, to mark the celebration of Independence Day, on 12th October. The full message is published below.
Your Excellency, on the threshold of celebrating the the 49 years of independence that are to be commemorated with large demonstrations in the climate of peace and security that reigns throughout national territory, the Council of the Republic welcomes this and has the highest honour of wishing H. E. its warmest congratulations for the unparalleled development and welfare experienced by the people.
A retrospective view allows us to recall that just 38 years ago there was nothing here, in other words, you inherited the nation in ruins, but with your faith as a leader in God, and your determination, you began to weave the nation, from your vote for Basic Law and its application, the fruit of which is the social, democratic State and Rule of Law where we have three powers; the legislative, judicial and executive, which today operate correctly.
A few years after assuming power there was a serious economic crisis, put thanks to your ingenuity, you firmly and unhurriedly achieved the reconstruction of the country, having managed to expand in the huge sectors cited here: the productive, public, structural, industrial and commercial, among others, to the point where today we can speak of Malabo II, Bata II, Evinayong II, Ebebiyin II, Mongomo II, even the capital cities of the district that have emerged through the construction of the new province of Djibloho, with its capital Ciudad de la Paz.
It is worth mentioning the huge events organised by the country in recent years; twice the African Union Summit, the CAN, other summits such as the ACP, Sullivan Foundation, etc. with spectacular results.
Notable achievements have also been obtained, with the election by a huge majority as non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and, in conclusion, we had the important intervention by Equatorial Guinea in September at the United Nations to defend world peace for all humans, defending it against the powers that be, underlining the proposal to destroy nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction, and thus prevent the desire of other nations to believe they have the right to possess them.
In consideration of all of the above, the Council of the Republic has the honour of expressing its congratulations to H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, President of the Republic, for the 49 years of independence since 12th October 1968.
The highest of regards, Happy anniversary President and happy anniversary Equatorial Guinea.
