Council of Ministers in Congo to evaluate extension of state of emergency

The plenary of the Government of the Republic of Congo met on 8th May in a virtual Council of Ministers meeting, overseen by the President of the Republic, H. E: Denis Sassou-Nguesso, to study and analyse various draft laws. The meeting took place at the People’s palace in Brazzaville.
Members of the Government debated the draft extending the health state of emergency and the draft to alleviate congestion in penitentiary centres, presented by the Minister for Justice and Human Rights, Aimé Ange Wilfried Bininga.
The progress of the pandemic has forced the Government to take special measures to avoid its spread. Penitentiary authorities have guaranteed the health safety for detainees in public prisons in the country.
Apart from the council meeting, H. E. Denis Sassou-Nguesso also met members of the National Technical Committee for the Control and Monitoring of the Coronavirus Pandemic, to look at the confinement plan to come into force on 16th May, presented by the Minister for Health, Jacqueline Lydia Mikolo, the general coordinator of the technical committee. Congo Brazzaville currently has 288 confirmed positive cases, with 45 recoveries and 10 deaths.
Following a wide overview, the President instructed those at the meeting to work as a team, after congratulating the Health department for the commitment of personnel and directors.
