As in 2017, the members making up the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) met on Tuesday 25th September in New York, on the fringes of the 73rd United Nations General Assembly.
The President of Cape Verde, who also occupies the rotating presidency of the community, Jorge Carlos Almeida Fonseca, called the meeting in which the Head of State, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, accompanied by his entourage, was present as a member of the institution.
The appointment of a new director of the Portuguese Language International Institute, the analysis of the elections held in some member countries, and the setting of dates for the start of the work of the new CPLP Executive Secretary, were some of the matters covered in the meeting.
Among the aims of the community are the evolution and analysis of the implementation of the sustainable development goals of the United Nations agenda 2030.
The President of the Republic, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, once again reminded the member countries one year on of the need to work under the principles of unity and criteria of solidarity, maintaining continuous dialogue among the social policy players, in order to overcome the circumstantial factors that hinder the development of countries.
