The need to find a lasting solution to refugees in Africa was the backdrop to the audience between the Ambassador Crisantos Obama Ondo and representatives from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, accredited before the African Union (AU) and the CEA, Cosmas Chanda.
The AU has declared 2019 the year of refugees, returnees and the internally displaced, and also the year of lasting solutions for forced displacement in Africa and, given that Equatorial Guinea holds the presidency of the COREP Sub-committee on Refugees and the Displaced in Africa, Chanda expressed his intention to work with Equatorial Guinea to find an overall solution to all these problems on the African continent.
Furthermore, the President of the Sub-committee on Refugees, the Ambassador Crisantos Obama Ondo, showed his opposite number all the plans on the agenda of Equatorial Guinea in favour of this group.
We want a substantial change on the ground”, he states, “which is to reduce the number of refugees as much as possible, and provide medical and educational attention to children in refugee camps, and the elimination of the rape of women”.
To do this, Obama Ondo expressed the clear will of the Government in Malabo to embrace any meeting or initiative that could favour this group.
