The Embassy of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea to the Federal Republic of Nigeria has received official notification of the attempted State coup in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea on 24th December 2017 by a group of infiltrated mercenaries in various areas of the country, the aim of which was to challenge the constitutional authorities and overthrow the legitimate civil power elected by the sovereign people of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea and successfully led by President H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

As a consequence, the Equatoguinean colony resident in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and in all countries under the jurisdiction of this diplomatic outpost, together with the diplomatic personnel posted here, join with me in energetically condemning these acts and declaring our repulsion against the macabre actions.
