Delegation from Ministry for Culture travels to Dubai

The delegation led by the Minster for Culture and Craft Promotion, Rufino Ndong Esono, left Malabo International Airport on the afternoon of Tuesday 17th October, bound for Dubai, to take part in the meeting of member countries of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the governing body for universal and international exhibitions.

At this momentous meeting, the one hundred and sixty-eight countries met for the second time to look at various matters regarding the annual world event. Among other matters, they signed agreements to take part in the Expo Universal, to be held in the United Arab Emirates, specifically in the city of Dubai, in 2020.

Equatorial Guinea will not sign the participation agreement at this time, said Ndong Esono, because the Equatoguinean Government’s receipt of the invitation to the event was substantially delayed.

As a result of this anomaly, Ndong Esono said that the Government is taking the necessary measures to confirm the participation of Equatorial Guinea in the world event, To be at this international event, the BIE requires many criteria. Among them, the availability of the participating country; the confirmation of its presence via diplomatic channels, the designation of a commissioner, and the composition of the organising commission from each country”.

The minister recalled that since 2016 the department is working jointly with the expo technicians designated for the negotiations regarding the participation of Equatorial Guinea in the Expo in Dubai 2020, and to date they have only chosen the plot where they will build the pavilion, which will have the theme of, Horizonte 2020 Integrated Development City of Djibloho”.

Equatorial Guinea has been a member with full rights to take part at meetings of the BIE since the eighties, and has taken part in various universal and international exhibitions: Seville 1992; Zaragoza 2008; Shanghai 2010; Yeosu 2012, and Milan, in 2015.
