On 14th August, a delegation from the Ministry for Culture, Tourism and Craft Promotion, led by the Director General for Tourism Regulations and Statistics, went to Moka, to get to know first-hand the details and needs of the inhabitants in the area who work as guides for visitors.
Prior to the meeting with those responsible for tourism in the area, the delegation held a meeting with the Government Delegate, and with the representative for National Security, and the mayor, in order to underline the importance and benefits of tourism for the local economy.
During the meeting, the local guides raised their proposals with the delegation, and they were assured that specific proposals would be presented to the Department for Culture, in order to seek potential solutions to their concerns, while asking the tourist agents to set prices for services, in order to avoid misunderstandings. The development of national tourism is a priority for the department, which is looking to fully understand the sector and its agents through these meetings.
In the area there are still poachers, who impair the long-term tourism potential, without forgetting the potential danger of many hunting methods, in particular traps.
