The German city of Berlin hosted the 51st international tourism fair ITB-BERLIN 2017, with the presence of an Equatoguinean delegation made up of the Director General for the Advancement and promotion of Tourism, and the Provincial Delegate from Bioko Norte, Maria Milagrosa Nchama Nzoho and Juan Jacobo Motto Abogo, respectively.
The delegation from the Ministry for Tourism in Equatorial Guinea had a busy schedule which included holding meetings with various tour operators, travel agencies, airlines, and investors in the tourism sector.
A visit from the Equatoguinean Minister of State for Tourism, Tomas Mecheba Fernandez-Galilea was expected, but he had to cancel his trip to Berlin in order to attend other business.
Following the decision by the Government to create a separate ministry for Tourism, the new team has opted to raise awareness regarding the Republic of Equatorial Guinea as a first class tourist destination, so in the last six months Mecheba Fernandez has attended various international events in the sector, with a presence at FITUR 2017, one of the largest, most prestigious tourism fairs in the world, where he held meetings with the General Secretary of the World Tourism Organisation (WTO), Taled Rifai.
The Berlin International Tourism Fair, in this year’s edition, was attended by various African countries and their stands, taking advantage of the opportunity to raise awareness regarding the possibilities for tourism.
The Minister for Tourism intends to be present at all international fairs in the sector, with the sole aim of selling our country as a first class tourist destination, taking into account its possibilities for the beach, golf, congresses, etc., using the significant infrastructure that the Republic of Equatorial Guinea now possesses.
