The World Food Program (WFP) and the Food Security Cluster conducted a rapid food security and market assessment in the town of Bandundu and the city of Kenge from 18 to 25 October 2022 in order to identify the basic needs of IDPs of the Kwamouth conflict and to assess the functionality of the markets in these IDP reception areas in order to propose response options based on evidence. The evaluation team was composed of 2 VAMs; 1 Safety; 1 Food Security Cluster; 1 Logistics Cluster and 2 Drivers.
Considering the “rapid” nature of the assessment, the methodology relied mainly on community discussions (focus groups) and interviews with key informants, while taking advantage of rapid assessment techniques in rural areas/rapid rural appraisal techniques, including observation, triangulation of sources of information etc. Thus, four focus groups were held in 3 different neighborhoods of the city of Bandundu with groups of displaced people in host families and a focus group in Kenge with displaced people in an accommodation site. About 80% of the participants in these focus groups were women.
It was not possible to organize discussions with the displaced persons in the Malebo site (Bandundu city) because the Government was in the process of distributing money (200,000 FC) to the displaced persons in this site, asking them to leave the places within 48 hrs after receipt of this money. The tension was still perceptible when the mission visited this site after the first day of distribution.
