On Saturday 8th March, the Senate, represented by a group of female senators, donated food and basic necessities to the Missionaries of Immaculate Mary La Almudena Orphan School and the NAFYS old people’s home in Malabo, to mark the celebration of 8th March, International Women’s Day.
The gesture made by the Upper Chamber, which is overseen by Teresa Efua Asangono, arose from the initiative that the legislative body had to spread the joy of celebrating International Women’s Day with these social groups.
The donation was well received by the centre managers, represented by the missionary Paciencia Eribé, who expressed gratitude for this gesture of solidarity proposed by the Upper Chamber of national Parliament.
Furthermore, at the Happy and Safe Asylum for Our Elderly (NAFYS) the group of senators was also received with honour and satisfaction by the founder and director of this humanitarian centre, Justina Modjo, who in addition to expressing gratitude to the Senate, hoped for a continuation of these initiatives on behalf of the population.
NAFYS was founded and opened in September 2018, and has a total of twenty-eight elderly people in residence, who also benefited from the food and items aimed at satisfying basic needs, so that they could feel part of the celebrations.
