Eight countries present their candidates to preside over the AfDB

The Governing Council of the Committee of Governors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) announced, last February 20, the list of candidates for the election of the next president of the organization.

Among the list of candidates are the Nigerian, Akinwumi A. Adesina; Sufian Ahmed, of Ethiopia; Jaloul Ayed, of Tunisia; Kordje Bedoumra of Chad; Cristina Duarte of Cape Verde; and Samura Kamara of Sierra Leone; Thomas Z. Sakala of Zimbabwe and Birama Boubacar Sidibe of Mali.

The current chairman, Donald Kaberuka, of Rwandan nationality, was elected in July 2005, and began his first term on September 1, 2005. After his reelection in May 2010, he began his second and last term on September 1, 2010.
