Equatoguinean Tennis Federation receives award at African Tennis Confederation Assembly

The Equatoguinean Tennis Federation (FET) has received the ITF/CAT award for the Greatest Commitment to the Development and Progress for Tennis in 2016, during the General Assembly of the African Tennis Confederation (CAT), held in Tunisia, from 6th to 7th May, for the ambitious project created in order to develop the sport in the country. Represented by its president, Manuel Adolfo Etoho, and the vice-president, A�scar Garcia Berniko, the FET attended this assembly for the first time since its creation following clean, clear and transparent elections, and were applauded by all; achievements included top level trainers course organised in record time, and a ambitious development programme for tennis, for the four years of 2016-2020.

The tennis development plan in Equatorial Guinea under Horizonte 2020 is based on five large projects; a) Development of grassroots tennis in schools; b) creation of club schools; c) Creation of a national circuit with at least five annual tournaments; d) Preparation of national teams and e) Training and recycling of human resources (trainers and sports administrators). The plan was enthusiastically received by the heads of world tennis (CAT/ITF), who decided jointly to grant the award to FET, above the 36 African candidates standing for the award.
