LUANDA, Angola’s President Jose Eduardo dos Santos has been encouraged by his Equatorial Guinean counterpart, Obiang Nguema, to continue with his efforts in advising and contributing to peace in Africa, particularly by assisting other countries experiencing political crisis and conflict.
This was disclosed by Angolan Foreign Minister Georges Chicoti at the airport here Monday at the end of brief visit to Angola b President Nguema, Chicoti said the President Nguema had acknowledge the Angolan leader’s role in promoting peace in Africa, citing as one example the handling of the crisis in the Central African Republic (CAR).
Chicoti described President Nguema’s visit as important, as it allowed the two sides to analyse the current state of bilateral co-operation, with defence and security co-operation having seen more progress under the bilateral agreements.
He also disclosed that 200 officers from that African country are attending training in Angola and that both countries would on an early resumption of meetings of their Joint Co-operation Committee, which had been dormant for about four years.
Angola’s State-run oil corporation Sonangol and the Equatorial Guinean oil and gas company would also resume talks to revive their co0operation to enable Angola to export gas to that country from northern Soyo province, Chicoti added.
