The town of Evinayong has. since the first of April, a diocese raised by Pope Francis I. Following the ordination on Saturday 20th, on the esplanade of the Immaculate Conception in Mongomo, this Sunday saw the enthronement in San Jose, by the Cardinal and Prefect of the Congregation and Evangelisation of the peoples, Fernando Filoni, assisted by the Nuncio for Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon, Piero Pioppo, together with components of the national episcopal conference.
The ceremony was witnessed by the presidential couple, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and the First Lady, Constancia Mangue de Obiang, some members of the Government and constitutional bodies, and provincial, district and municipal authorities from the towns of Evinayong, Niefang and Akurenam, respectively.
There was a reading of the papal bull signed by the Supreme Pontiff, naming Calixto Paulino Esono Abaga Obono, as first Bishop of the recently created Diocese of Evinayong.
After the first two readings and the St. Johnis Gospel, his eminence Fernando Filoni pointed out the importance and advantages of the creation of a diocese for the unification of believers.
During this celebration communion was given, and brotherly hugs which served for the installation and enthronement of the Bishop, Calixto Paulino Esono Abaga Obono, giving way to the declaration of obedience and the kissing of the ring by priests in his charge.
The new minister of God thanked both God and all the legal and physical persons who contributed towards his election and appointment, together with the two from Mongomo and Ebibiyin, respectively.
He also set out the basis for how his bishopric will operate before those present. Following the priest’s blessing, the Eucharistic celebration concluded with demonstrations of joy from the Christian population.
