With the aim of developing the Equatoguinean capacity for gas exportation, on 4th June, in the Punt Europa industrial area, a ceremony took place to lay the first stone of the natural gas project.
The act was overseen by the presidential couple, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and Constancia Mangue de Obiang, with the presence of the presidents of constitutional bodies, the Government, the Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea, represented by its General Secretary, Jeronimo Osa Osa Ecoro, and other senior leaders from the companies Marathon Oil Corporation, Nobel Energy, and staff and technicians from the project. Speeches were given by the vice-presidents of the oil companies.
The Minister for Mines and Hydrocarbons, Gabriel Mbega Obiang Lima, presented a detailed report on the project to exploit gas in Equatorial Guinea, which will guarantee an increase in gas used by the population, and an increase in national labour in the gas sector.
The current production will be maintained at Punta Europa, and the continuity of oil activity in Equatorial Guinea will be guaranteed. He also pointed out that this sector needs the support of the Government during these times, in which the price of gas in the world continues to rise.
A documentary was also shown on the project, during the ceremony.
For his part, the President of the Republic, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, welcomed the cooperation between the Government of Equatorial Guinea and the corresponding companies from the sector. In addition, he remarked that this project was an incentive to continue to invest in the field of the oil and gas industry.
In addition, the Minister for Mines, together with the oil companies working in our country, presented the Head of State with gifts to mark his 76th birthday.
The priest’s blessing, the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, and the laying of the first stone, were the final acts at the event.
