The Minister for Fishing and Water Resources, Adoracion Salas Chonco, has held a meeting with fishing professionals in Malabo. At the meeting she was informed regarding groupings here in Bioko, and expressed her concern regarding a note from the Ministry for Mines and Hydrocarbons, in which some fisherman had been reported for fishing in prohibited areas.
The minister called on the fishing professionals to respect the regulations, and heed the warnings of the company LG; she also recalled that the new Fishing Law protects artisan fishermen.
In addition, she reminded them of the need to repay the loans issued by the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The minister also expressed her indignation about the way fish was currently sold in our country, and said that artisan fishing was going to be further promoted.
