The 2019 edition of the African Sporting Tourism Destination Awards, held on 20th September in Accra (Ghana), is a pan-African event involving players from the entire continent, in both sport and tourism, in which the decisions of the jury give awards to the chosen few, for their good work and dedication.
Beyond football and athletics stadiums, and away from the spotlights of the modern indoor sports halls, there is a whole world of sport that has not yet been explored, and which has brought the awards to Malabo, capital of Equatorial Guinea and to the Grand Hotel Djibloho, as an Emerging Sporting Destination and Best Sporting Tourism Complex, respectively, in the “African Sporting Tourism Destination Awards”.
Malabo obtained the award thanks to it holding various editions of the African Cup of Nations, and its magnificent, modern sports infrastructures. The Hotel Djibloho received the award thanks to its luxurious facilities and the only Golf Course in the surrounding area. The fact is that Equatorial Guinea has already hosted various international golf tournaments, and the Grand Hotel Djibloho has been the epicentre of a number of these events, which has made it a deserving recipient of such prestigious continental recognition. Furthermore, the team captained by Vincenzo Presti, up to the task, has been able to organise galas, ceremonies and competitions, in an impeccable manner.
All this has come about thanks to the vision of H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who a long time ago saw the value and importance of Sport, beyond its daily practice, in order to transform it into a hub to attract tourism to the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
