The General Secretary of the Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE), Jeronimo Osa Osa Ecoro, in his capacity as National Grants Coordinator, attended a farewell dinner for students in receipt of grants leaving for China. In his speech, he advised the group to apply effort and dedication in order to achieve positive results.
On the evening of Wednesday 22nd August the farewell event took place for the recipients of grants who are to study in the People’s republic of China. The ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malabo.
Following the introduction in accordance to protocol, the Ambassador Chen Gouyou highlighted the excellent relations of friendship and cooperation between China and Equatorial Guinea, and recalled a Chinese proverb, Ten years to cultivate a tree, a hundred years to make a person. Education is a long-term investment, and an essential element in the development of a country. The Chinese party gives great importance to Equatoguinean cooperation in the areas of education and the training of human resources”.
Chen Gouyou also declared that China had become the preferred country for young Equatoguineans; they did not only provide the opportunity to study a degree, but also the “Thousand talents” programme since 2016, with the intention of training a thousand students from Equatorial Guinea in a variety of sectors.
The Oyala Occupational School, donated by the Chinese Government, will also contribute to the training of professional talent”, he said.
Another of the achievements in the education sector mentioned by the Ambassador was the creation of the UNGE Confucius Institute, which has developed rapidly, and has a total of 704 students, The leaders in China and Equatorial Guinea are concerned about the development and training of young people. Now you are in receipt of grants from the Chinese Government, which constitutes significant cooperation between the two countries in the area of education. I hope you will appreciate the opportunity to maintain your aspiration to overcome your difficulties”.
The National Grants Coordinator and General Secretary of the Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE), Jeronimo Osa Osa Ecoro, for his part and in the name of the Head of State, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, recognised the support from the Ambassador and the Chinese Government through its collaboration in the training of human resources, and reminded the students that a people that does not train its human resources is a people bound for failure.
He also affirmed that China had trained over one thousand Equatoguineans, due to the good relations with our country, as a result of the policies of the Head of State. He assured the students that their progress also underscored the progress of our country.
By way of a reminder, the General Secretary of the PDGE appealed to their responsibility and to a change of mentality, Responsibility also serves to justify positive results, adaptation to the culture of the host country, and the prevention of failure”.
