On Tuesday 24th January, H. E. Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue was sworn in at the People’s palace in Malabo, before the Head of State, H. E Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
Curbing corruption, maritime piracy and crime, as well as boosting economic recovery, may have been the reasons that prompted the Head of State to entrust the post of Vice-President of the Republic, Charged with Defence and State Security to H. E. Nguema Obiang Mangue once again.
After taking the oath of office, Nguema Obiang Mangue was congratulated by various figures and the Sons of Obiang Association on his fresh appointment as Vice-President of the Republic.
Some did so on Tuesday, through a massive turnout amid chants and cheers on the esplanade of the People’s Palace in Malabo, while others expressed their congratulations from the various State institutions in the country.
The Head of State’s Office published Presidential Decree number 41/23, naming H. E. Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue as Vice-President of the Republic, Charged with National Defence and State Security.
Since he was first appointed Vice-President of the Republic in 2016, Nguema Obiang Mangue has undertaken various actions aimed at the well-being of Equatoguineans.
On the one hand he has fought against corruption, crime and maritime piracy, and has also deployed battalions to ensure the country’s territorial integrity. On the other hand, he has further promoted and boosted the economic diversification plan through the promotion of tourism, in addition to making the country’s ports and airports profitable.
The aim is to inject more oxygen into Equatorial Guinea’s gross domestic product and generate more jobs in order to reduce the unemployment rate in Equatorial Guinea.
Actions which, according to those interviewed, have allowed the Head of State, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, to reappoint Nguema Obiang Mangue as Vice-President of the Republic.
The new appointment of the Vice-President of the Council of Ministers to the Head of State’s Office comes weeks after the conclusion of the Presidential, Legislative and Municipal Elections held on 20th November 2022.
At the swearing-in ceremony, the President of Equatorial Guinea congratulated Nguema Obiang Mangue for the fresh dynamism he is injecting into the country’s administration, with greater emphasis on the fight against corruption and crime. He also expressed support for the actions undertaken to eliminate these scourges. At the same time, he wished him every success in his continued work as Vice-President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
