The work of the 54th Assembly of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the African Development Fund continued on 12th June in Sipopo, with a top level meeting under the banner: Strengthen economic integration on the African continent. The President of the Republic, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, gave the opening speech, the full contents of which we are including with this article.
The Heads of State and Governments present at the ceremony were taken into the Palace of Conferences in Sipopo by the President of the AfDB Group, Akiwinmi Adesina and the Equatoguinean Minister for Finance, Cesar Augusto Mba.
The forum marks an important point in the history of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, according to the Minister for Finance and President of the Board of Governors of the AfDB Group 2019, in his welcome speech to the delegations from various nations on the continent.
For the AfDB President, the Sipopo 2019 meeting is an occasion to share a point of view on the banking institution he leads, regarding the economic situation in Africa.
Akiwinmi Adesina praised the transformation of our nation and the development programmes outlined by the Government.
In his opening speech, the Head of State and Government, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, described the 54th AfDB Assembly as an act of cooperation ans solidarity aimed at seeking development for Africa.
On the presence of the First Lady, Constancia Mangue de Obiang, and distinguished guests such as the King of Lesoto, the Head of State from the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Prime Minister from Swaziland and representatives from leaders of countries on the African continent, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo recalled the creation of the city of Sipopo, in operation since 2012, and also recalled the past of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, which has transformed itself from being one of the poorest countries in the world to having one of the highest income per capita on the continent.
It is the case that , in the last 10 years, the Government has focussed greater attention on providing the country with better infrastructures, an improvement in governance, the training of human resources, and the promotion of economic diversification”, he added.
For the Head of State, it is a privilege to host the AfDB Annual Assembly at a time when the country is beginning a new policy of economic diversification and consolidation of social equity.
H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo made it clear that Equatorial Guinea is open to business, so that men and women from our continent and from other parts of the world can set up here and feel safe to invest in order to achieve full development.
In addition to the showing of videos on activities carried out by AfDB in the various African nations, and one showing the current situation in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, the Heads of State from Equatorial Guinea and Democratic Republic of Congo and the King of Lesoto, among others, gave their opinions to the press on regional economic integration and free trade in Africa.
After a group photo, the presidential couple gave a reception for the guests.
