On 23rd May, the Head of State, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, received a Spanish delegation visiting our country, led by the Spanish Foreign Ministry Secretary of State, Ildefonso Castro Lopez.
During the conversation, the member of the Madrid Government, in addition to presenting a written message from the President, H. E. Mariano Rajoy to his Equatoguinean counterpart, also spoke to the Head of State about the desire of both nations to strengthen the relations of friendship and bilateral cooperation.
On this my working visit, I have brought the President of Equatorial Guinea the desire for good bilateral relations; an improvement in our cooperation, and we spoke about matters regarding Equatorial Guinea, matters regarding Spain, and the bilateral relations between our countries, and cooperation. I gave my impressions, asked things, and we spoke about Spain and Equatorial Guinea and matters regarding the African continent” declared Ildefonso Castro Lopez, before the press.
Asked about the impressions of Spain regarding the 50 years of Equatorial Guinea as a sovereign country, the Secretary of State declared that, these 50 years are important above all for Equatorial Guinea, because they are for the independence of Equatorial Guinea; evidently, for Spain, it is important because Equatorial Guinea was Spanish territory, and there is a desire to be adequately represented to mark the date”.
The meeting took place in the presence of the Minister for Foreign Affairs from our country, Simeon Oyono Esono, the accredited Spanish Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea, Guillermo Antonio Lopez Mac-Lellan, and the Equatoguinean Ambassador to Spain, Purificacion Angue Ondo.
