Head of State returns from trip to Nigeria

The Head of State, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, returned to the country on 23rd January from the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a brother country to which he had been invited by his counterpart, H. E. Mahamadou Buhari. The welcoming ceremony for the President took place at the Presidential Pavilion at Malabo International Airport, and was led by the President of the Senate, Teresa Efua Asangono.

Nigeria is a neighbouring country whose President, H. E. Mahamadou Buhari has been ill; for that reason I asked for a meeting to greet him and congratulate him on his recovery”, declared H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo before the media, minutes after arriving in Malabo.

He also stated that during his stay in Abuja, he also spoke to his Nigerian counterpart about the matter of bilateral cooperation, because Nigeria is economically quite a strong country, and he issued an invitation to Nigerian businessmen to come and invest in Equatorial Guinea.

The terrorism of Boko Haram; praise for the Nigerian Head of State for his fight against terrorism; the mercenary attack that has just happened in Equatorial Guinea, and the solidarity between African countries, also formed part of the conversations between the two Presidents.

Along these lines, H. E. Mahamadou Buhari expressed his intention to strengthen security relations with the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, and appreciated the excellent ties uniting the two peoples and governments.
