The meeting was held on the margins of the High Level United Nations Policy Forum on Sustainable Development, in New York.

This Policy Forum on Sustainable Development has become the predominant platform for the international review of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and the effectiveness of aid for development and the creation of new partnerships and associations in favour of development cooperation.

The main aim of the forum is to achieve true effectiveness for development cooperation in each affected State, through a programme of inclusive work, based on the principles of respect for the priorities of national development, results, associations and transparency in the processes of accountability before donors and beneficiaries.

Created after the Busan (South Korea) Conference, the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation has the challenges of multifaceted development as its backdrop, together with its potentialities and systems for harmonising contributions from other relevant players such as civil society. These include Parliaments, the private sector, unions, foundations, academics and local authorities, in order to promote greater effectiveness for development aid.
