The Magno Suites Hotel, together with Bioko Wine Imports, Grupo Mosaico, Basile, K5 Freeport and Logistico Markem, were the Equatoguinean companies responsible for the organisation of the 1st Malabo Gastronomic Fair, on Saturday 29th June.
This cultural event, at which those present could enjoy typical dishes from international gastronomy, accompanied by a selection of over 120 international wines, was attended by over one hundred and seventy people.
The representative from Bioko Wine Imports (BWI) highlighted the importance of wine at this type of event, as it is not just a drink, but a clear expression of a way of understanding and living life. The experts selected from among all the drinks various African spirits, including Tope and Malamba; and wines from other regions on the continent.
With respect to gastronomy, which also featured international flavours, it was possible to try dishes ranging from Galician Octopus to the famous cachopo; and for the more traditional there were meats and lamb marinated in wines from Ribera de Duero and Rioja. Obviously the typical dishes from Equatorial Guinea had to be present, and there was chicken with peanuts, and typical sweets, together with chocolates from the Sampaka Estate and lyophilised fruit from Baney Balance. All these companies gave a sweet touch, and brought the event to a close. These is sure to be a second edition, given the success of the first.
This type of fair strengthens the leadership of Malabo in the subregion, as these gatherings are a strong tourist attraction, for both nationals and foreigners. It is important that, with the support of the relevant departments, the private sector steers initiatives that can return Malabo to the peak of gastronomic culture in the subregion and on the African continent.
