The accredited Republic of Equatorial Guinea Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Representative of the Permanent Mission before the African Union (AU) and the UN Economic Commission for Africa, Crisantos Obama Ondo, has been involved in intense diplomatic activity over the last few days, receiving his counterparts in his office and visiting others in their respective embassies within the framework of diplomatic courtesy. After co-chairing with the Spanish Ambassador the working breakfast to analyse the situation regarding the Spanish language in the AU and the need for it to be adopted at the next Summit, the Ambassador Obama Ondo received the Ambassador from the Republic of Rwanda, Hope Tumukunde Gasatura, in a meeting in which the two diplomats reviewed the relations of friendship and cooperation between Malabo and Kigali, and taking the opportunity to look at questions regarding the functioning of the African Union and the importance of seeking joint visions on specific issues in order to defend the interests of Africa in the world.
After that, the Equatoguinean Ambassador met authorities from the Ethiopian Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, in order to also review the relations existing between the two countries, and to discuss the agreements signed between the two Governments and the stages in going forward with the new intentions expressed by H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo during his latest official visit to Ethiopia in June.
On the following day, the Equatorial Guinea Ambassador visited the Ambassador from the Islamic Republic of Egypt and President of the Committee of Permanent Representatives before the African Union (COREP). The meeting served as an occasion to exchange points of view on specific current issues in the AU, and the agenda for the upcoming African Union Conference of Heads of State and Governments.
Furthermore, Crisantos Obama Ondo held a meeting with the President of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, on 18th October, with whom he spoke about the defence of the AU values, the implementation of the process of institutional reform in the organisation, and matters of specific interest to Equatorial Guinea.
In addition, he took an active part in the work of the IV Informal Seminar and III Joint Meeting between the UN Security Council and the African Union Peace and Security Council in Addis Abeba, where the meetings were also attended by the Equatorial Guinea Ambassador, Representative of the Permanent Mission before the UN, Anatolio Ndong Mba.
The Ambassador Obama Ondo also received in his official office the UNESCO representative in Ethiopia and director of the UNESCO Office of Representation in the AU and the UN Economic Commission for Africa, Ana Elisa De Santana Afonso, with whom he talked about the activities carried out, the candidacy of Agapito Mba Mokuy, and the UNESCO Equatorial Guinea Prize for science, and other questions of interest to the two parties.
Finally, Crisantos Obama Ondo went in representation of the Government to Kigali and the continental consultative meeting on global solidarity and shared responsibility to attack the deep causes of forced displacement in Africa. The diplomat used the meeting to report on actions taken by the leader of the African Union theme of the year on refugees, returnees and the internally displaced, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
