The Equatorial Guinean President, S.E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, on his visit to Cape Verde on 17th July to attend the 12th Head of State and government conference of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), which takes place in the Hilton Hotel in the city of Santa Maria, has started his agenda with the meeting scheduled with the former Cape Verde Head of State, Pedro Verona Rodriguez Pires.
The dialogue took place hours prior to the opening of the summit, and focused on the exchange of points of view on subjects related to strengthening the cooperation between Cape Verde and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, in addition to the friendship that joins the two VIPs.
During his term of office as president, Pedro de Verona Pires made a State visit to the Republic of Equatorial Guinea in February 2009, to strengthen the cooperation between both African nations that share Portuguese as their language.
In 2010, the Equatorial Guinean president also made a State visit to Cape Verde by invitation of their former president.
