Meeting between PDGE General Secretary and People’s Republic of Korea Ambassador

On the afternoon of Thursday 17th January, Jeronimo Osa Osa Ecoro met the Ambassador from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Ton Chol Ho. This was the first audience held by the General Secretary in 2019.

During the meeting they reviewed activities carried out by the two parties during 2018, which included the exchange of visits by delegations, and cooperation in various sectors, in addition to the recruitment of new members for the PDGE musical band.

Tong Chol Ho expressed gratitude for the support his country received from the Republic of Equatorial Guinea in international affairs, in its fight for sovereignty, and against foreign interference, and reported to the General Secretary that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea was committed to international opening and the achievement of peace on the Korean peninsula.

For his part, Osa Osa Ecoro reaffirmed that Equatorial Guinea supported the efforts for peace and stability on the Korean peninsula; support which shows the solidity of bilateral relations which have existed for fifty years.

Along those same lines, Osa Osa Ecoro advised that our country also supported the idea of the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula, and praised the maintenance of relations between the two countries, in addition to recalling the participation of a senior delegation from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea during the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Independence in Equatorial Guinea.

The PDGE General Secretary concluded by welcoming a continuation in the efforts towards development on the Korean peninsula.
