Minister for Foreign Affairs holds farewell dinner for United States Ambassador

On the evening of 22nd February, the Minister for Foreign affairs and Cooperation, Simeon Oyono Esono Angue, offered a farewell dinner at the ministerial headquarters for the United States Ambassador, Julie Furuta-Toy, following the conclusion of her mission in Equatorial Guinea.

In 2016, Julie Furuta-Toy presented her credentials before the President of the Republic, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, and in February 2019 she concluded her mission in the country. The minister Esono Angue praised the work of the American diplomat in the consolidation of the excellent relations of friendship and cooperation between the United States and Equatorial Guinea which have been enjoyed for decades.

We know that the United States of America is a friendly country and strategic partner for Equatorial Guinea; for that reason, we can always count on you to continue to collaborate and provide mutual support in the promotion of the aims of United Nations Agenda 2030, specifically in the areas of peace and security, climate change and sustainability, these being the questions that most affect the development and prosperity of nations”, stated Oyono Esono Angue.

Furthermore, the minister also mentioned that respect for Human Rights and basic freedoms represented an essential pillar for State policy. It is for that reason that the Government in our country welcomes both the interest and the contribution from the Ambassador, and they must continue to go forward together with confidence in order to achieve the sustainable development goals.
