Political phase of III National Economic Conference begins

Various authorities, diplomatic missions, members of the Government, institutions and civic society and the Vice-President of the Republic, Charged with Defence and State Security, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, gathered, on 2nd May, at the Palace of Conferences in Sipopo, to begin the political phase of the III National Economic Conference, at a ceremony that was opened by the President of the Republic, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, whose full speech we are including with this article.

From 2nd to 4th May, the political phase of the NEC will take place, with the general aims of adopting a transitory strategy for development in order to redirect the Horizonte 2020 plan, adopt an agreement on the level of implementation of the 2020 plan, establish and adapt mechanisms for the eradication of poverty, for social inclusion and sustainable peace, productivity and industrialisation, and environmental sustainability, and garner experiences on policies for sustainable, inclusive economic development.

The opening ceremony began with a welcoming speech from the Mayoress of Malabo City Hall, Maria Coloma Edjang Bengono, followed by various speeches from representatives from banks such as the BDEAC, the AFREXIM Bank, the African Development Bank (AfDB), the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Furthermore, representatives from CEMAC, the CEEAC, the African Union (AU), the United Nations (UN) and the Minister for Finance, the Economy and Planning, Cesar Augusto Mba Abogo, also spoke, prior to a speech by the President of the Republic, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who brought the opening ceremony to a close.
