The Head of State, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, began the celebration of his 76th birthday with sports activities on the Malabo Promenade, where the presidential couple took part in the popular race organised by the Ministry for Education, University Teaching and Sports.
Wearing the numbers one and two, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and Constancia Mangue de Obiang led the main pack of athletes in various categories from the Athletics Federation and students from public and private schools in the capital.
At the finish line, the President said he felt fit, and welcomed the appreciation received from the people in celebration of 5th June, his birthday.
The First Lady, for her part, also recommended taking part in sports activities, in order to prevent many illnesses and keep fit.
The first act of the day was a gathering in the Malabo sports complex. The presidential birthday is a date that has a place on the official calendar of fiestas in the country, thanks to motions presented by Constantino Ochaga and Leandro Mbomio, outstanding figures from the culture and traditions of Equatorial Guinea.
This 5th June was special for the department of Education, as the Equatorial Guinea Olympic Committee proclaimed the Head of State First Sportsman of the country, for his habitual sporting endeavours. The minister JesA�s Engonga Ndong presented the President with the title.
Representatives from political parties of the opposition, the PDGE National Office, the Government, the Judiciary and the Parliament highlighted the work done by the leader of the country, and did not hesitate to condemn the failed terrorist attack of 24th December 2017.
The General Secretary of the PDGE, Jeronimo Osa Osa Ecoro, had a special gift for the President Founder.
The Head of State expressed gratitude for the attendance, for what it means as recognition of the work done for the people.
