On Thursday 25th July, the People’s Council of Akoakam Esengui, belonging to the district of Mongomo, celebrated the feast of their patron saint, Santiago Apostol, as in other cities of the country, such as Bata or Baney.
The solemn thanksgiving mass celebrated at the parish church was attended by the presidential couple, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and H. E. Constancia Mangue de Obiang, in addition to provincial and district authorities from Mongomo, and governors, Government delegates and mayors from the entire Continental Region.
Monsignor Juan Domingo Beka, Bishop of the diocese of Mongomo, together with various priests, spoke in the homily of the sense and meaning of Santiago Apostol, stressing that the joy uniting the inhabitants of Akoakam Esengui on the feast of their patron should remain forever between brothers. Furthermore, prayers were said for the deceased from the area, and those present were thanked, followed by a blessing from the bishop.
The festivities continues in Akoakam Esengui with cultural displays and the presidential couple offered a reception for those present in the Hotel Akoakam in Mongomo.
