To mark International Women’s Day, a thanksgiving mass was said on Friday 8th March in Akonibe, the second city in the country, in the presence of the Equatoguinean presidential couple. They were accompanied by the Minister fro Social Affairs and gender Equality, Maria Consuelo Nguema Oyana, in the Parish Church of San Pio X.
During the homily, Father Juan de Pablo Sanz spoke of the joint responsibility in equality between man and woman, as human beings created by God in his image and likeness, thus coinciding with the reflections last week by the President of the Republic during the mass gathering in the municipality.
It is the most appropriate and suitable day to praise women, and for that reason a song dedicated to women was sung to the Lord, as the pillar of our history. In the same way, the priest called for the good treatment of women, rejecting gender violence head on.
During the Eucharistic mass, the Carmelites and Constancia Mangue de Obiang shared a dance with the Antondobe choir from Akonibe, within the festive atmosphere of this 8th march.
