Presidential couple attends first pontifical mass by Bishop of Mongomo

The Universal Catholic Church celebrated the feast of the ascension of Jesus into heaven with a religious service attended by the presidential couple, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, and the First Lady, Constancia Mangue de Obiang.

This celebration at the Basilica Cathedral coincided with the first pontifical mass by its bishop, Monsignor Juan Domingo Beka Esono Ayang, assisted by the Bishop of the Diocese of Mbalmayo (Cameroon), the Vicar of Oyam (Gabon), and various priests.

The presidential couple, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, and the First Lady, Constancia Mangue de Obiang, joined the rest of the national, provincial, district and municipal apolitical authorities, parishioners and ecclesiastic associations, to attend this mass.

In his opening words, the Rector of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception paid homage to the new bishop, confirming the will of each and every one of the components of this diocese. He also expressed his gratitude towards the Head of State and his Government, for supporting the evangelising activities of the national Catholic Church through specific actions.

The celebrating bishop, in his homily, said that we are all sons of the same father, who has blessed us with the building of his church among us.

When the preaching in Spanish and Fang was over, the various parishes with their respective priests offered various gifts.

The episcopal blessing concluded the ceremony.
