Presidential couple travels to Continental Region to spend Christmas period

The presidential couple left Malabo bound for the Continental Region, to attend the religious ceremonies marking the feast of the national patron, the Immaculate Conception, on 8th December, which also coincides with the VI Anniversary of the Cathedral of the Basilica in the capital of the Province of Wele-Nzas in the city of Mongomo.

The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, now Cathedral of the Basilica, is the largest religious building in Central Africa, and the second largest Catholic church in the whole of Africa, after Yamusukro, in Ivory Coast, and was opened on 7th December 2011 by Cardinal Francis Arinze.

The Minister for National Security, Nicolas Obama Nchama, led the send-off ceremony at Malabo International Airport for the Head of State, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, and his wife, Constancia Mangue de Obiang.
