Press Release on visit by President of Gabon

At the invitation of H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, H. E. Ali Bongo Ondimba, President of the Republic of Gabon and current President of the Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC), made a working visit to Malabo on 24th February 2018. The entire contents are published below.

“At the invitation of H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, H. E. Ali Bongo Ondimba, President of the Republic of Gabon and current President of the Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC), made a working visit to Malabo, on 24th February 2018.

During conversations, the two leaders of State exchanged points of view in relation to the overall situation of the community. In this sense, the two heads of State covered the situation of peace and security in the subregion.

H. E. Ali Bongo Ondimba reported to his counterpart H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo on the celebration in Libreville on 5th and 6th March of a meeting of the CEEAC Peace and Security Council. The holding of this meeting was decided on during the course of the meetings held at the 30th African Union Summit, which took place on 30th January 2018, in Addis Abeba.

The two heads of State, from that standpoint, condemn all attempts at destabilisation in the regions of Central Africa.

The two heads of State also examined matters regarding the reintegration within CEEAC area. To that effect, they underlined the need to speed up the process of reform under way in the CEEAC. Furthermore, they placed emphasis on the importance of projects involving the private sector in member States.

On the bilateral plan, Their Excellencies Presidents Ali Bongo Ondimba and Obiang Nguema Mbasogo reviewed matters of interest and praised the strengthening of the ties of friendship and brotherhood between the two countries.

In order to further strengthen the ties of brotherhood and neighbourliness between the two countries, the two heads of State reaffirmed the contents of the joint communique recently signed in Malabo between the two parties on 2nd December 2017.

The two heads of State thus reaffirmed their will to hold two regular consultations on matters of common interest.

H. E. Ali Bongo Ondimba, President of the Republic of Gabon, thanked H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, for the warm welcome provided for the delegation from the Gabonese Republic.
