Prime Minister meets commercial operators

Faced with the discontent created among the population due to the excessive increase in the prices of specific imported articles and the corresponding rise in the price of the shopping basket, the Government, in its role as facilitator and with the firm aim of providing a solution to the problem, has called a meeting with the main commercial operators in the country: Martinez Hermanos, EGTC, Comercial Santy and Guinaco. On the morning of 22nd October, the Prime Minister of the Government, Charged with Administrative Coordination, met chiefs from these companies, in order to learn first hand the reasons for the increases. At the meeting, which was attended by the Minister for Trade and the Promotion of Small and Medium-sized Companies, Alberto Doria Lajay, the Secretary of State, Charged with Budgets and Financial Control from the Ministry for Finance, Nicolas Okiri Abaha, and the Governor of the province of Litoral, Marcelo Castro Ngua Nkulu, chiefs from the main commercial companies in the country offered their points of view.

The dialogue concluded with the establishment of a deadline of 15th November, prior to the start of the Christmas purchasing campaign, for a study which would involve both officials from the Ministry for Trade and chiefs from commercial operators, in order to reach an agreement on discrimination between the increase in the price of essential goods and those considered luxury items.
