The Parliament has signed an Institutional Declaration of Condemnation and Repulsion against the Assassination and Destabilisation Attempt against the Republic of Equatorial Guinea by a group of mercenaries and terrorists on 24th December 2017. The entire declaration document is included with this news article.
At the initiative of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea in the Senate, the institutional declaration was adopted unanimously by the Parliamentary Plenary session, and was signed on 26th February by the Presidents of the two Chambers of the National Parliament, Teresa Efua Asangono, from the Senate, and Gaudencio Mohaba Messu, from the Chamber of Deputies, at a ceremony which took place at the SIpopo Palace of International Conferences, before members of the Chamber of Deputies- Senate Mixed Commission.
The document covers the condemnation and repulsion of the highest national legislative body regarding the attempted assassination and destabilisation perpetrated by a group of mercenaries, with the sole aim of disturbing the peace and tranquillity in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, and to carry out assassinations, beginning with the Equatoguinean Head of State and his family.
The deeds are roundly and energetically condemned by the National Parliament, in the belief that these mercenary attacks are the work of people with excessive ambition who opt for violence in order to impose political change, without a thought for the degree of destruction and loss of human life that they may cause; all that against the will of the people and the basic principles of democracy, human freedom, progress and the welfare of the people.
Following the signing of the Institutional Declaration, Teresa Efua Asangono and Gaudencio Mohaba Messu congratulated each other for their commitment, patriotism and consensus shown by the members of the two chambers in adopting the Parliamentary declaration as a demonstration of understanding between the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, in compliance with their sacred work of fighting for and defending the interests and rights, together with the welfare and tranquillity of the noble people of Equatorial Guinea, which represents, without doubt, not only a message, but a lesson for the national and international community regarding the strong cohesion which exists between the national democratic institutions, above all when defending and safeguarding things as precious and supreme as peace on our native soil and the lives of our inhabitants.
