SOUTH AFRICAN AID ORGANIZATION PREPARES TO ASSIST WAR-STRICKEN SYRIANS

JOHANNESBURG, South African air organization Gift of the Givers is preparing to assist people fleeing besieged cities in Syria, says its Chairman Imtiaz Sooliman.

Sooliman said over the weekend that the organization’s hospitals in Idlib in northwestern Syria were awaiting the arrival of patients. We have two hospitals. We have a team of 200 medical and support personnel and we also have feeding centres,” he added.

“We have a warehouse and we have many houses where we can hold people and treat them. We also have refugee camps.”

Aid agencies are hopeful that the operation to evacuate thousands of people trapped in eastern Aleppo can resume.

However, several buses enroute to evacuate civilians from two government-held villages in Idlib province have been burned by rebels.

Sooliman said: Logistically we are prepared on the ground. We have the capacity to take in many more patients. In fact we are expecting hundreds of causalities to come to the hospital.

“They have already given us advanced notice from Aleppo. In the coming days we are expecting a huge influx of those casualties and we will manage them.
