The Department of Labour will host a day-long workshop next week to familiarize stakeholders in South Africa’s explosives industry on amendments to regulations governing their workplace.
The Labour Department’s Deputy Director for Explosives in the Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Directorate, Rudzani Ramabulana, said here Thursday the process of amending the regulations was a response to a call by the industry that the 2003 regulations were outdated and not on par with modern trends.
Ramabulana said a lot of technological developments had occurred in the explosives environment and this necessitated the proposed changes.
The explosives regulation amendment consultation workshop will be held under the theme, ‘Building an ideal explosives environment for everyone’.
The workshop, to be held at the University of South Africa Florida Campus near Johannesburg on Monday, will seek to elicit inputs and comments on the review of the explosives regulations.
