On 5th June, the sports centre in Malabo was the setting for all the speeches to commemorate the 75th Birthday of H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, where various political and judicial authorities and representatives congratulated the Head of State.
In accordance with protocol, the President of the Chamber of Representatives of the People, Gaudencio Mohaba Mesu, was the seventh speaker to give his congratulatory address to the Head of State.
Mohaba Mesu, in his speech, which many of those present described as one of the best at the event, called on the power of the Lord Almighty as the light which has shone on Equatoguinean territory, with the birth of its charismatic leader, in order to place the Republic of Equatorial Guinea at the highest point in the sub.region and on the African continent.
Excellency, allow me to begin my speech today by thanking Almighty God for two essential reasons. The first is for having poured his blessings and grace over our country, the second is because today, the Lord has blessed our President with another year of life, with the same energy, the same vitality, and above all health to continue to lead with his habitual expertise the historic destiny of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea”, he declared.
In other paragraphs from his speech, Mohaba Mesu mentioned one of the grim episodes from the previous regime, in which all the churches and houses of prayer were sealed off by the old authorities. In 1973, following the freedom coup, H. E. gave the order to reopen all the evangelical churches which had been sealed for twenty years, transforming the majority into stores for cocoa and coffee, because worshipping God was totally prohibited in a Christian country.
With the opening of the churches in our country, the doors also opened to the blessings that we are all enjoying today. We have all just witnessed an extraordinary, unprecedented event, in the ordination of three Bishops at the same time in a single country by the Pope, and this is confirmation that God has poured his blessings over our country, because when God opens a door, no one can close it”.
Among other aspects, all the speakers congratulated the Government for their management and the membership of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea of international organisations, such as OPEC, and within the UN as non-permanent member of the Security Council.
